Photo.net is the largest online community dedicated to photography, with tons of information, equipment reviews and a huge gallery of user submitted photos.

Any list of photography web sites wouldn't be complete without mentioning National Geographic , featuring an ever-changing collection of photo galleries and tips for aspiring photographers.

Steve McCurry is one of my all-time favorite photographers. His work includes stunning images from South and Southeast Asia.

Bill Hocker is an amateur photographer who has some beautiful pictures from thirty years of travel.

The best place to buy cameras and other photo supplies is B&H Photo . They have a long-standing reputation for quality service and great prices.

Travel Writing

World Hum is an excellent web site with volumes of high quality travel writing.

BootsnAll is another great web site with user-submitted travel writing and other valuable resources for independent travelers.

Rolf Potts is a well-traveled writer who has published some brilliant stories in Salon online magazine and is working on his first book.

Travel Guides

Thinking about planning an extended trip but not sure where to start? The Round-the-World Travel Guide is an excellent resource providing detailed information about costs, transportation, health and many other important issues.

Lonely Planet publishes very informative travel guides for independent travelers. Their web site only has a limited amount of information, but it still useful for planning your trip.

Discount Travel Agencies

Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel always has some great international travel bargains. They've also published an invaluable list of bucket shops and airline consolidators. Would you believe you can buy an around-the-world ticket for $1000?

If you're in London, Trailfinders is absolutely the best European discount travel agency. Unfortunately, their web site doesn't provide a lot of useful information.
