In October 2005, I traveled to Ethiopia with my friend Gerard, where we
spent two weeks trekking 150km
through the Simien Mountains, one of the most spectacular mountain
regions in the world. I caught fleas. Gerard broke his
ankle. We survived a minor revolution. But the trip provided
us with incredible insights into Ethiopia, a country that is not often
thought of in the same breath with spectacular beauty, stunning vistas,
