Pictures of Chile

Back to South America

In December 2000, I arrived in Chile from Argentina and boarded the Puerto Eden ferry for the 1500km journey down the desolate coast of southern Chile.  It was a remarkable but not entirely pleasant trip, with gale force winds, six meter seas pounding the boat, and some memorable midnight episodes of sea sickness.  Arriving three days later in the southern Patagonian town of Puerto Natales, I set out to trek the Paine circuit.
